Mirembe Royal School in Kayebe recently hosted its annual Sports Day. “Caring for the Environment”. The event featured various activities, including cross-country, athletics, sand bottle emptying, rope skipping, potato peeling, ball dribbling, tyre rolling, tug of war, flower vase setting, and dressing up speed. The learners from Baby Class to primary five were competing among theior colors including; Yellow (Sunshine), Blue (Our Sky0, Orange (Our fruits) and red (our blood)









Parents were invited to participate in some activities, which they enthusiastically did. Mr. Mayanja Simon, a parent of three children in the school, praised the decision to include parents, saying, “This is good. We are happy that the school is creative.”

Ms. Namuyanja Jalia, a mother of three in the school, participated in soccer penalties and scored. She expressed her joy, stating, “I’m happy to get involved. I’ve been able to play together with my children. This is very good. It gives great memories of school times.”

Chief Guest Ms. Olive Nakiranda commended the school director, Maama Mirembe Royal, for organizing the event. She noted the school’s progress, particularly in maintaining a green environment, parental participation, and playground development. She glorified God for the colorful day. Ms. Nakiranda donated money to support sports in the school.

Maama Mirembe Royal explained that the school’s approach aims to nurture well-rounded children through creative and skill-based activities. She added, “This is a study activity. We want them to learn by playing. We’ve chosen local games that utilize waste materials to promote the ‘go green’ message. All our activities have been aimed at having the learners introduced to all different activities relevant to their day to day lifestyle. We follow the National Curriculum.”

Ms. Namaweje Sulaina, the Chief Judge, described the day as colorful and praised the school for preparing the learners well. The learners, from baby class to primary five, competed in various sports activities under their school colors. Color Red (our blood) emerged as the overall winner.

The event aimed at promoting learning through play, parental involvement, and environmental awareness. Mirembe Royal School currently has classes up to primary five but plans to expand to primary seven.
